Muséum nationale d'Histoire naturelle

The Muséum d'Histoire naturelle in Paris was started in 1635 as the King's garden of medicinal plants (Jardin du Roi) and has remained a center for scientific learning ever since.

Much of Brongniart's career and life was centred here, and he taught mineralogy here for most of his adult career, becoming Chair of Mineralogy in 1822. He also taught at the Paris School of Mines, nearby from 1795 and throughout his career.

Cuvier created the Chair of Comparative Anatomy when he was elected to its faculty, and his galleries became a famous site of research and wonder.

You can read more on the history of the Muséum on their website here.
